Acquisition strengthens Acal's electronics division

Technology and electronics firm Acal has strengthened its electronics division with the acquisition of a provider of electronic communications and fibre optic components.

Acal, which specialises in supplying wireless LAN equipment, web servers, magnetics and satellite communication systems, has acquired CompoTron from BW Holding.

CompoTron, which supplied its goods to the European industrial electronic markets, was purchased for £7.1 million from BW Holding, which was wholly owned by the CompoTron management.

CompoTron is headquartered in Munich and operates across Germany, Denmark and the UK. Acal's plans for its new acquisition will see it form a 'separate business unit' within the existing Acal electronics division. Alongside this, it will keep its own brand identity.

Chief executive of Acal, Nick Jefferies, said, "The acquisition of CompoTron is a further step in the implementation of our European specialisation strategy, enhancing our position in the German specialist electronics market.

"It follows the acquisition of BFi Optilas in December 2009 which has now been successfully integrated into Acal. We are delighted to welcome CompoTron into the Group," he added.

As of 31 December 2009, CompoTron's revenues were £6.1 million, with a pre-tax profit of £0.8 million.
