Auction sale set for rural pub popular with walkers

The Eagle and Child pub in Hurst Green, Lancashire, is to be sold off at auction next week, on Tuesday, 10th February.

The auction is to take place in the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, and is being marketed by Auction House Lancashire. The presently vacant two-storey property has a guide price of £150,000.

The rural pub is on the Tolkien Trail and so is in a prime position to take trade from walkers and walking groups, and offers two rooms for letting. It was previously taken over by sisters Samantha Hubbard and Michelle Cummings in March 2012.

Commenting on the business at the time of taking on the pub, Michelle told the Clitheroe Advertiser: “It’s a beautiful location and the views from the back of the pub are incredible. It’s a cosy pub with open fires and a large garden. We hope it’s going to be focal point for local residents and a walkers’ retreat.”

The sisters' plans were to make the venue a “traditional pub, with bar snacks and a really nice specials board”.

The Eagle and Child includes a restaurant, a large car park, and great views according to the website for the pub, which is still operational.
