A hotel in Bideford, which was subjected to fire damage back in 2011, has now been put up for sale.
Located on the town's quay, Tantons Hotel was one of the largest hotels in Bideford before it was hit by the fire. It had 53 en-s1`uite bedrooms, a large restaurant and bar and a number of function rooms.
However, it has stood vacant since the fire and although work was started in 2011 to rebuild the property, it was never completed and the hotel has been boarded up for some time.
The hotel is being sold by Huntley & Partners with a guide price of between £300,000 and £400,000. Before the fire hit, the business had a turnover in the region of £700,000.
A statement from the seller observed: “The property still requires extensive renovation and refurbishment throughout before it can be reinstated successfully as a trading entity. Alternatively, it is felt that [it] might lend itself to potential redevelopment, subject to any necessary planning and listed planning consents.”
Paul Goss, from Huntley & Partners, told the North Devon Gazette that the agency has received “some general interest from people who have seen the boards” as well as some interest from “developers and existing hoteliers”.
