Butcher business for sale

A family butcher business is for sale in the Yorkshire area for £680,000, it has been confirmed.

Charter's Butchers was originally established in 1896 and continues to make Charter's Pork Pies to the century-old recipe. It also operates two shops, one in Brandesburton and another in Leven.

The business has maintained a strong sense of family tradition and benefits from this reputation within the local communities. Richard 'Dick' Prescott originally owned the company and passed it down the family throughout the past century.

Richard Charter was the latest family member to sell the business back in 2001, but it was to his daughter Sara Vickers and her husband Kevan.

Now the company is for sale on a freehold basis and looks set to leave the family. Mr Vickers told Driffield Today: "I started working here when I was 16 and my wife and I were able to buy the business ten years ago.

"We hoped that it would be passed onto the next generation, but unfortunately, there is no one to take it over, our family have other commitments and it is time for us to move on before we’re too old."

In the past the property included an abattoir and a slaughterhouse with everything done on the premises. The business has since changed but the butcher shop and attached five-bedroom property remain of substantial size.
