Carlisle hotel up for sale

One of Carlisle's best-known hotels has come onto the market after a gym and leisure facility based there was closed down last year.

The Cumbria Park Hotel, located on Scotland Road in Stanwix, is one of the Best Western chain of hotels. Described as 'a well presented city centre hotel', The three-star Cumbria Park Hotel comprises 53 bedrooms, restaurant and lounge bar, event and function rooms and landscaped gardens and a pond. It also has extensive car parking facilities to the rear.

The gym and leisure facility, which was originally intended for use by hotel residents, comprised a sauna, steam room, sunbeds, Jacuzzi and well-equipped gym.

It was opened in December 2000 and called Toria's in memory of 19-year-old Victoria (Toria) Lowther who died from the human form of BSE, called Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. Her parents previously owned the hotel.

Property agents Knight Frank are handling the freehold sale of the hotel, which is being advertised in the property journal The Estates Gazette. A guide price has not yet been disclosed.

Knight Frank's website says, "The Cumbria Park Hotel is located north of the city centre of Carlisle on Scotland Road, the A7, the main route into the city from the north via M6 Junction 44. The hotel's frontage faces directly onto the A7 providing excellent road positioning."
