Chauffeur Monkey business up for sale

Sussex-based Chauffeur Monkey has been put up for sale with the company’s current owner hoping a fellow entrepreneur can continue the business.

Chauffeur Monkey provides a service in which a driver will meet customers on a small moped and then stow the bike away and drive the customer home in their own car. The chauffeur service removes the hassle of leaving your car overnight somewhere if you wish to drink, while also claiming to be cheaper than a normal taxi service.

Owner Tony Murrell is now looking to sell the company that he founded over six years ago to someone who can take it forward. Mr Murrell, meanwhile, wishes to focus on his burgeoning Lewes Supper Club as a semi-retirement project, The Argus reported.

The Lewes businessman claimed that one of the perks of the company was being able to drive home the supercars owned by some of its wealthier customers.

Chauffeur Monkey owns four of the foldaway mini bikes and has the backing of the local police across the Sussex and Brighton area that it serves. It records an annual profit of £15,000 from a turnover of £41,000 and is available to buy for £25,000.

Mr Murrell has also offered to spend two months free-of-charge helping the new owner achieve a smooth transition. He said: “The business is very profitable, more profitable than I thought it would be, but I have not been able to increase the turnover as I was hoping for the effort I have been putting in.

“I am now nearer 60 than 50 and I am too old to get up at 3am to rescue somebody.

“It would be a real shame if it had to fold so it would be great to see somebody take it to another level that I haven’t been able to.”
