Closed Carlisle pub with potential up for sale

A Carlisle business opportunity - in the form of a boarded-up but structurally sound pub - has been put on the market with a guide price of £100,000.

The Globe Inn, on Caldewgate's Bridge Street, is being marketed with strong potential for being reopened as a welcome addition to the area.

The property has only been standing empty since December last year, and local residents have expresses enthusiasm for someone to take on the task of doing it up again a giving them another option for a watering hole.

The pub is in an area that used to be home to a number of pubs - including the 200-year-old Malsters Arms on John Street, which was demolished in 2004 to make way for student flats. There is currently only one remaining pub in the area - the Joiner's Arms - and local people were disappointed to see the Globe close six months ago.

The pub is said to have suffered limited flood damage shortly before it was closed down and is in need of refurbishment, but necessary work is said to be limited to the cosmetic.

The building is traditional brick, with a slate roof, and comes with a first floor flat and a small yard. It is located next to a site that has been earmarked for a busy new Sainsbury's development, which will create 500 jobs and include a foodstore and petrol station.
