Devon fish and chip shop up for sale

A fish and chip shop in Mortehoe, which was heavily damaged by fire, has been put up for sale.

The Mor-T-Eat chippy in the north Devon village of Mortehoe suffered extensive damage as a result of a fire in July 2013, which required 35 firefighters to extinguish. It has since undergone major refurbishments and the shop now includes a new gas frying range, new freezers and fridges, a new venting and a complete cosmetic makeover.

However, after eight and half years running the fish and chip shop, owner Sue Grice has taken the decision to sell up. Despite having gone through the dramatic events of the fire and the subsequent refurbishment, Ms Grice decided that she wanted to move to Shropshire to be closer to her daughter.

She told the North Devon Journal: "I've really enjoyed working here over the years; Mortehoe is an absolutely beautiful place to work and live. We've had regular visitors and been part of a great community; everyone came together especially when we had the fire.

"It was frightening and it's been a lot of work, but the builders have been fabulous, they have done a great job. It would be great if someone local wanted to buy the place, but to be honest it would be great for anyone.”

The premises are available to purchase through Webbers estate agents. Tony Foster, associate director at Webbers said: "It is rare to have the opportunity to buy a fish and chip shop with a completely new shop, frying range and fittings. This really is a blank canvas for an inspiring entrepreneur to potentially make a lot of money."
