Devon music shop stock up for grabs

If anyone has ever been interested in starting a music shop then the stock of Devon store has been put up for sale.

The music store is selling more than 20,000 items on the online auction site eBay. The lot is listed at £8,999 ‘buy it now’, although interested parties can alternatively just log their highest bid.

Gigwise reported that the shop has been open for seven years but is being sold so the owner can start a different business. The lease on the shop ends in October, with the current owner having no plans of renewing it.

The statement in the listing reads: "I have built the business up for the last 7 years, and can also give out supplier contact details. This is a great opportunity to start up your own record shop."

It also states the buyer will receive: "Thousands upon thousands of new and used vinyl singles, albums & box sets, CD singles and albums." It also includes merchandise including badges, posters, mugs and t-shirts."

One might think that CDs, vinyls and the like are a poor investment but these ‘retro’ technologies are very much in demand; vinyl sales are at their highest level in 15 years. According to the British Phonographic Industry, 780,000 vinyl albums were sold in 2013 - the largest number since 817,000 were sold in 1997.

As such, this represents a great opportunity for some to enter the music retail industry.
