Devon tea room for sale

A sumptuous British tea room that has featured on TV shows the Great British Menu and Escape To The Country is on the market.

Constructed in 1776 and grade II listed, Devon-based tea room the Topsham will set buyers back about £940,000.

The Georgian building also features ten bedrooms, a courtyard and a walled flower garden, and has been voted ‘best tea room’ by Devon Life magazine for seven years in a row.

Presently run by Heather and Gerald Knee, the property is being sold by estate agency Saleboards.

"Currently used as a ten-bedroom guesthouse, this beautiful piece of Georgian architecture is multifunctional and would suit anyone searching for a fine spacious property in the Topsham area," a spokesman for Saleboards said.

One of the exiting owners, Mrs Knee, 70, said she has been at the tea room for 25 years. She explained, "It has become such a big part of our lives. We will need to get another little tea room".

Celebrity visitors to the site include actress Lynda Bellingham and chef Michael Caines.
