Goxhill's only pub stops serving and is put for sale

The only pub in the North Lincolnshire village of Goxhill has ceased trading and been put up for sale, it was announced last week.

The Brocklesby Hunt, Goxhill’s only local boozer, closed on Sunday night (23 February) and it has been declared that the owners are going to sell the freehold building. The 19th Century pub is owned by Enterprise Inns and the building has been valued at £360,000.

In the 2011 census Goxhill had a population of just 2,290. The catchment area clearly did not prove large enough as the outgoing landlady Lynn Gilham said that recently the Hunt had only been bringing in weekly taking of just over £1,000 when it needed to be earning north of £2,500.

Gilham, 47, said that the pub’s closure was a sad loss for the village. While she is going on take up the owner Enterprise Inns on an offer to manage The Nelthorpe Arms in South Ferriby, the pub and its 1.1-acre site is seeking a new buyer.

Now that the pub has pulled its last pint, for the time being at least, arrangements have been made for The Hunt’s Sunday football team, pub quiz, darts and pool teams to move to other pubs in the region.

Leeds-based Fawley Watson Booth is handling the sale. For more information call 0113 234 7900.
