Grade II-listed events complex for sale

A Grade II-listed building has been put up for sale by the City of Lincoln Council, which can no longer afford the costs associated with the building.

The Lawn complex was originally built as a mental hospital, but of late it has been run as a venue for concerts and other large events in the area.

However, the council has overseen several other uses for the property, including a children's play area, a museum and gallery location, a small theatre, café units and a tropical garden.

The initial decision to sell was taken by the council back in October 2011, but bidding does not end until 7 March. Whoever is chosen as the buyer will be in the city's “best interests”, accounting to the council.

But council leader Ric Metcalfe noted that the decision was still a difficult one. He added: “I would like, once again, to reassure the public and the current tenants that we will carry out a very detailed evaluation process, ensuring that the sale is in the best interests of the city.

“Our decision to sell will not be based on price alone, and any sale will be subject to the leases of existing tenants who currently occupy premises at the complex.”
