Krimo’s restaurant in Hartlepool has been put for sale and is facing closure later this year after almost 30 years of serving diners, the Hartlepool Mail reports.
Krimo’s is one of the coastal town’s best known and highly regarded restaurants. Opened in May 1985, it serves Mediterranean and North African cuisine.
It was announced at the end of last week that the restaurant has now been put up for sale by owners Krimo and Karen Bouabda and the pair say that they face having to close altogether if they cannot find a buyer before the end of the year. The couple also own Casa Del Mar and Portofino’s, which they say they will now focus their time on.
The news comes as the increasingly rundown and thus less popular Hartlepool Marina area comes under criticism from local businesses; earlier this year another popular restaurant – Lotus Garden – also closed, while Neil Evans – who runs the Black Olive bar – told the Mail that unless the area was spruced up quickly, new businesses would not be attracted to the area, leaving it blighted by empty units.
Krimo Bouabda, the eponymous 61-year-old, said: “The lease ends in December and I’ve no intention of extending it because basically I’m getting old. It will be running as normal until then or until somebody buys it because we have put it up for sale.”
