Historic pub and hotel for sale

An historic coaching inn hotel and pub is on the market in County Durham after its owners opted to retire.

The Rose and Crown is an 18th century coaching inn hotel in Romaldkirk. It boasts two AA Red Stars and two AA Rosettes and includes 12 en-suite bedrooms in its hotel area, as well as a bar, brasserie and restaurant. The whole lot is for sale with a guide price of £1.35 million.

Chris and Alison Davy, the property's owners, are selling due to retirement. The couple told Big Hospitality: “We have enjoyed 23 really happy years in Romaldkirk. However, our children are now grown up and retirement beckons.

“The Rose and Crown is a very special business and we hope that we shall find new owners who will love the old inn as much a we do and take it forward even further in the future.”

David Lee, director of the Newcastle office at Christie & Co, added that the inn is “one of the best coaching inns to come to the market in recent times”.

He noted that the property would allow the new owner to enjoy living in “a self-contained cottage to the rear of the property”, while they will also benefit from a business with an “enviable reputation” reflected in “consistently high turnover and net profits”.
