Historic Scottish brewery complex on the market

The Fox and Hounds, one of Scotland's most historic pub, restaurant and micro-brewery complexes has been put up for sale with a £1.3 million price tag.

The business and its Houston premises has been put on the market through agents Christie & Co, with a price tag of £1.3 million. The pub is one of the oldest pubs on the Scottish west-coast coach line, which has historically supported a string of pubs along its route through Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire.

Brian Sheldon, a director with Christie & Co, said that the business was "well-established", with a loyal customer base, and a prime opportunity for someone with experience of the hospitality trade. It is thought to date back to 1779.

"The business trades very much as a 'local' to the immediate community and also attracts clientele from the surrounding towns and villages," he explained. "It has been owned and operated by the present family for the past 32 years. The introduction of the brewery in 1997 further enhanced its reputation and is considered a destination venue."

Only this year the company's Peter's Well beer won the Best Bitter category of the Champion Beer of Britain Awards.

The premises are prominently positioned within the village of Houston, and have a large car park and external decking area.
