Landmark pub for sale in Shropshire

A landmark pub in Shropshire is up for sale after having closed its doors late last year.

The Bottle and Glass, located in Picklescott, near Church Stretton, is on the market for £245,000 and it is hoped that the business will receive a new lease of life from whoever opts to buy it.

Landlady Paula Gurney closed the doors last year after a slump in trade followed rising fuel costs and economic troubles. However, the Grade-II listed building could show some signs of recovery and the new owners are likely to be able to trade on its good reputation for food and ales.

A spokesman for the sales agent told the Shropshire Star: "The Bottle & Glass, which traded until September 2011, had a reputation for good food and well kept traditional ales. The building itself was originally a farmhouse and was first licensed as an ale house in 1837."

He added: "It is an area renowned for spectacular scenery which explains its popularity for walking, horse riding and a wide range of outdoor activities."

Included in the sale are the pub and its two bars, restaurant, kitchen, three letting bedrooms and one-bedroomed owner's flat.
