Familiar roadside restaurant chain, Little Chef, is to sell 19 of its premises in the UK, following a comprehensive review of its property portfolio.
The company currently runs 161 restaurants throughout the UK, and is letting go the 19 restaurants that operate under both the Little Chef and Burger King brands as they have been deemed to be "surplus" to the company's aims.
Simon Chaplin, director at Christie & Co, has been hired to advise on the sale. He said that the disposal would likely attract a significant amount of interest from people representing a range of businesses, due to the convenience of the locations.
"Little Chef is synonymous with convenient roadside locations and while these sites have been identified as surplus to the estate and earmarked for letting by the company, that core advantage remains for prospective tenants," he told Big Hospitality magazine.
The eight closed Little Chef outlets will be offered for new businesses, while the 11 Burger King restaurants will be sold as going concerns and will be traded as normal while sales take place.
The Little Chef premises for sale will include vacated buildings in Edinburgh, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Cornwall, Suffolk, County Durham, Sheffield and the West Midlands.
