Local businessman buys nightclub

A nightclub in Shropshire has been bought by local businessman Martin Monahan, who already owns a number of bars and clubs in the town of Shrewsbury.

The Buttermarket club is set to create around 60 full and part-time jobs once it is opened up the public again in September following an investment of more than £1 million.

Council leaders and businesses in the area have welcomed the news, reported by The Shropshire Star, as it will return the multi-use venue to action. Councillor Peter Nutting, leader of Shrewsbury Town Council, told the paper: “I think its excellent news for the town and the management of C:21 [Mr Monahan's existing nightclub] over the years has been brilliant so I can’t think of anyone better to take over the running of it.

“All jobs are most welcome in this town, particularly when it is coming from a reliable employer so this is great for Shrewsbury as a whole.”

Local business owners added that the area has been completely turned around in recent years and that efforts such as the investment in The Buttermarket will continue to make this corner of town attractive and vibrant.
