Local community welcomes new pub landlord

Business people considering a lifestyle decision, such as buying up a pub or similar leisure business, can sometimes be daunted by becoming a new presence in a tightly-knit community.

But one recent venture in Boddington has been a success, with the local people welcoming a new landlord.

The House in the Tree pub was closed for three months when its previous landlords moved away without notice. However, a new landlord, Jason Clarke, has now been made to feel at home at the helm of the business.

Mr Clarke told the Gloucestershire Echo: “I used to come here when I was a child and now I'm her with my girlfriend and family. I know it really well. It's a 500-year-old pub and it's a shame that it was closed.”

He added: “The reception from the locals has been brilliant. It's their pub and they love it. Everything was still here. All the stock was here and the food from the night before was still on the side.”

Mr Clarke is making plans to keep his new acquisition popular, noting that he intends to keep traditional pub food on the menu, using fresh local produce and featuring a specials board for weekends and evenings.
