A chemist shop in Lowestoft is on the market and is expected to be sold at auction.
The Victorian store has served the town for over two centuries, originally opening in 1807. Things have changed somewhat since then, however. When the store first opened its doors opium was being used as a common pain relief, while today it's more likely to sell paracetamol and safer products.
A guide price of between £80,000 and £100,000 has been put on the business ahead of its auction date. The auction will go ahead on 1 August and William H Brown will oversee proceedings, EADT.co.uk reported.
The company was owned by Anthony and Helen Wren for around 12 years, before it was taken over by Boots. While the business has had a successful run in its original guise, the high street pharmacist chain announced last year that it was to close the business and sell the property.
Growing competition from similar businesses was thought to be behind the decision to sell the business as it was not proving profitable to continue.
