A Grade-II listed mill building is up for sale in Chichester Harbour through joint auctioneers Henry Adams and Clive Emson.
The building dates back to the 18th century and is currently being used as a store. However, it has the potential to be converted into a restaurant or even a home or boutique hotel, according to the sellers.
David Adams, a partner with Henry Adams, told the West Sussex Country Times that the mill's sale is a “fabulous opportunity to restore a highly unusual and historic Grade-II listed building”. He added: “And with access across the harbour lock and spectacular views over the marina, there can be few buildings in Chichester with such a sought after location.”
The property is set beside the lock at the end of its own peninsula. It boasts dual aspect views across the harbour from the location on which it has stood since 1768. However, according to the Domesday Book an earlier mill was present around the same location. In its past it had competed with a nearby mill as they both made use of tidal power in the harbour to grind wheat and oats.
