Old Royal Oak pub for sale

The Old Royal Oak pub in Market Place, Burton, is up for sale as its owners are undergoing a shake-up.

The pub is owned by Punch Taverns, but the firm is undergoing a review of its properties and has been forced to dispose of some establishments.

A spokesman for the firm told the Burton Mail: “It is always our preference that our pubs continue to trade as pubs. However, we do review our estate regularly and may explore other options around the future of our less sustainable sites, or where they might better fulfil their potential for the local community under different ownership.”

The pub's landlord, Irwin Linstead, has operated the Old Royal Oak for the past two years. He told the paper that it is a “real shame” the pub has been put on the market. Customers are keen for the current landlord to stay, but he was given no preferential purchase option, with Punch putting the business on the open market.

Punch Taverns is selling a number of public houses across the country, either in groups or as individual businesses.
