Petition calls for pub to be saved

A petition has been launched trying to save a pub in Ilford from being turned into a residential property development or another kind of business.

The Cauliflower pub is up for sale after being launched on to the market back in May. Offers are being invited for prices in the region of £400,000.

However, any buyer who wants to take on the property will need to be aware of local sentiment. A petition has been started by John Law calling for the building to be kept as a pub. He told the Ilford Recorder: “The Cauliflower pub is up for sale and I have confirmed with the planning and regeneration department that the building is locally listed.

“The message that must be given to the council here is that [it] must not allow any planning application [that] changes the purpose of the building from that of a pub.”

He added that the pub is “part of our heritage”, and explained that it was built on an old market and cauliflower patch that dates back to before 1897.

The pub is located close to Seven Kings rail station and is within reach of the Newbury Park tube station.
