Planning permission sought for pub for sale

A pub for sale or rent looks set to have planning permission added to its potential list of uses, with suggestions being floated of converting it into a home.

The Lion's Head pub in the Winterton Conservation Area has been empty for some time and was on the market either as a rental property or for sale. However, planners have now received a submission as part of a development scheme that could see the building turned into a four-bedroom family home.

At the moment the building is virtually derelict and has been seen as a problem for sometime. It is hoped that the addition of the planning permission will tempt more buyers to consider the purchase seriously.

The unpredictable economic climate has seen a number of pubs and restaurants put on the market of late. The Yew Tree in Berkshire is one such establishment at the other end of the scale.

With offers sought in excess of £1.65 million, the Yew Tree pub is being sold off as part of a dispute between high-profile chef Marco Pierre White and his former business partners, Andrew Parton and Peter Maxwell after Pierre White took a 30 per cent stake in the pub in 2005 in return for letting is use his name.

Regardless of the disputes behind the sale, the building boasts an excellent country setting and plenty of features and facilities that could benefit the buyer.
