Plymouth pub destroyed in fire up for auction

A village pub located near Plymouth that was destroyed in a fire 12 months ago is going up for auction in London next month.

The historic Old Ship Inn in Cawsand was left gutted after a fire in October 2013. The Saturday night blaze at one point saw 65 firefighters working to keep it under control, the Plymouth Herald reported.

"We are delighted that at long last something which will hopefully be positive will occur to the Old Ship Inn,” said Clive Davies, the chairman of Maker with Rame Parish Council.

“The building has been empty for approximately 10 years and has not been an attractive village building, and this situation was much worsened by a major fire that gutted the building in October 2013 changing the description from unattractive to total eyesore.”

The pub has been a Grade II listed building since 1987, and was built around 1750, according to English Heritage records.

The future owner will require planning permission and listed building consent before developments can begin on the land. The site that the remains sit on is said to be suitable for a variety of uses.

The site goes up for auction on Thursday 2 October in Kensington, London, being conducted by auctioneers Harman Healy.
