Popular Essex pub finds new owners

A popular Essex pub has found new owners and looks set to once again provide a meeting place for locals.

The Coach and Horses freehouse in Wicken Bonhunt, near Saffron Walden, was sold to Sergio Manini and Ananta Limsuwat through Christie & Co. The quoted guide price was £375,000, according to the Saffron Walden Reporter, but the exact sale price is unknown.

The buyers are experienced pub operators and are expected to make the most of the bar, restaurant, pool room, beer garden, patio and private accommodation included in the lot.

Mr Manini told the paper: “Our plan for the Coach and Horses is to have good quality beverages accompanied by home-made authentic Thai food including traditional and fusion dishes.”

The bar should be up and running again this month, while the restaurant is likely to take a bit more work but should be trading again by May. “We are very happy and look forward to starting trading,” the purchaser added.

Bill Colquhoun, director at Christie & Co, which handled the sale, added that the main feature of the deal was that the “vendor took the purchaser's property in part-exchange for the Coach and Horses, thus enabling the sale to progress with no chain issues”.
