Popular Wirral restaurant Julian's on the market

A popular restaurant in the seaside resort of Hoylake has been put up for sale by its owners.

Julian’s on Birkenhead Road in the Wirral town is being sold by the owners, Julian and Jackie Davies, who said that the recession and Jackie’s ill health has prompted their decision.

They bought the restaurant seven years ago and it has become a valued mainstay of the area’s dining scene. Julian said, however, that they wanted to pass it on as Jackie continues to recover from breast cancer.

She was successfully treated for the disease, which was diagnosed in March last year, but now has to undergo a five-year course of medication. Julian said that they wanted to devote all their energies to that, and were looking for an experienced restaurant manager to continue the business.

“It’s a combination of [Jackie’s health] and the recession making it difficult to afford the extra staff to cover for Jackie,” Julian explained. “I’m 58 on my next birthday, I’ve cooked for 43 years happily so it seems like the right time to put the restaurant on the market and see what happens.”

The restaurant is being marketed by the Manchester office of business agents Christie + Co.
