Post Office in busy market town up for grabs

A 70-year-old Post Office in Wales has been put up for sale as the current owners prepare for retirement.

Elvina McCarthy and her husband Robert have run the Llanfyllin Post Office for the last 11 years but the pair are ready to sell their last stamp. The property is now on the market, with the business running on the site also including a shop selling stationary, gifts, Welsh designer t-shirts, hoodies, jewellery and other products.

The grade two listed property is spread over five floors and comes with five to six bedrooms and two basement rooms. Mrs McCarthy told the County Times: “It’s a real hub in the heart of the town and a great place to live as well.”

She added: “It’s been the hub of Llanfyllin for many years and we’ve enjoyed our time helping people with their banking and postal requirements etc, as well as running our own shop.

“The property provides so many opportunities for the new owner and with it being central within the town, the possibilities are endless.”

Rob Hudson, partner at Morris, Marshall and Poole, who will deal with the sale, says that he is anticipating a lot of interest in the Post Office and retail business.

It is listed at £295,000, including the premises and the fully operational shop – making it ideal for a number of commercial or retail uses within the busy Welsh market town.
