Pub buyer hopes to transform The Old Bulls Head

The Old Bulls Head, a 17th century pub in Newcastle, has been purchased from Punch Taverns and is due to reopen tonight.

While many pubs in the UK are struggling to keep enough customers at the bar, licensee Martin Scott, who is running the Bulls Head on behalf of Joule's Brewery, believes he can turn around the fortunes of this drinking establishment.

According to This is Staffordshire, the pub will host a re-launch party tonight (2 May), as part of its efforts to encourage new customers.

Speaking to the news source, Mr Scott stated: “We want to transform The Old Bulls Head into a real ale pub. It has had a bit of a facelift and we are going to introduce a new menu as well as a couple of new staff, including a chef.

"When Punch Taverns first put the pub up for sale a lot of people were worried that it would be lost, so the one thing I want to do is try to meet the needs of the customers.”

He added that the establishment “has got the potential” to be a success for locals and noted that he hopes to bring the “lovely little old pub” back to life.
