The Richmond Arms pub in Lansdown has been put up for sale again after it was previously taken off the market when planning permission to convert it to residential property was denied.
Located near Bath, the property is owned by Punch Taverns and is part of a broader sell-off by the company of what it has seen as under performing assets.
Reports from the Bath Chronicle stated that the company was told by the local council that it cannot sell the pub until 1 January next year because a local campaign has been organised by a community group who want to raise the funds to buy the business themselves.
Pubs in the area have been the focus of a flurry of investment in recent months, even as other areas around the country are closing their establishments.
South West Business reported that City Pubs invested £800.000 in the Bath Brew House in September. General manager Lucas Van Rensburg commented on the financing: “The mistake a lot of people make is they see a failing pub but they can’t see the potential but we did.
“Nothing is dictated to us by head office we are free public house so if customers request a particular cider we can get it in. The menu changes on a daily basis too. We are the new kid on the block at the moment but people might get kind of used to it. We will ride the wave over the festive period but the real test will be in the new year.”
