Sale imminent for North Wales hotel

A landmark hotel in North Wales could be sold by Christmas, after renewed interest from a potential buyer, its estate agents have said.

The Deganwy Castle Hotel, in Deganwy, near Llandudno, closed in January after it became economically unviable and was put up for sale with a price tag of £1 million.

Savill’s Estate Agents, who are managing its sale, have sought to quash rumours circulating in the surrounding community that it is to be turned into a homeless hostel, and said they were currently dealing with a realistic offer on the 31-bedroom property.

Savill's spokesman, Alistair Greenhalgh, said, "I have no idea where [the homeless shelter] rumour started from, but it's certainly not the case.

"A sensible offer on the hotel has been made, and we are waiting to hear back from [owners] Enterprise Inns. We anticipate that if they accept the offer the sale could go through before Christmas."

The hotel had been a focal point for the community of Deganwy, hosting a number of local social clubs including Rotary, Lions, Round Table, Masons and Probus and also being a popular venue for weddings and parties. Locals have been keen for a new buyer to be found, as there have been concerns that the empty Grade II listed building was turning into an eyesore.
