Survey finds increase in small business owners taking a break

Recent research has found that more small business owners are considering taking a break this year than last year.

According to the study, conducted by Peninsula Business Services, 73 per cent have planned a break this year, compared to just 57 per cent last year.

While business owners are still struggling to switch off once they actually get on holiday, with 76 per cent emailing the office every day and 87 per cent calling at least once while they are away, the research does at least suggest that people are confident enough to take a small step back, even if they are unable to entirely switch off for any period of time.

Peter Done, managing director of Peninsula, commented: “Everyone needs a break, so leave the Blackberry at home, switch off and enjoy the sun, your business will still be there when you get back.

“I think it's a sign of better times when bosses are looking to take a holiday, however I am sure many of them will continue to work despite taking time off.”

He added that a break can be of benefit to business owners and their employees, giving them both a bit of time apart and the chance to refresh their ideas and approach to work.

A growing level of confidence among small businesses could bring with it some good news for business buyers who are looking to acquire a strong company.
