Tan House pub sold

The Tan House pub, located in Shirenewton, Monmouthshire, has been sold for around £225,000 to a businessman with experience in the pub trade.

The property was marketed by Christie's and Co after its owners Pubfolio Ltd went into administration.

Nicholas Calfe, local director, handled the sale and reported that the businessman, Mark Dew, was not the only interested party, with a number of locals keen to use the site for different reasons. In fact, a total of 13 viewings and six bids were received before Mr Dew finally purchased it.

Mr Dew runs several pubs in the local area already, including The Chainbridge Inn at Kemneys Commander near Usk.

Included in the competing bids was a group of men keen to set up a village shop in the old pub, the South Wales Argus reported. Mr Calfe informed the paper that there were indeed a wide variety of bids for the business: “There was interest from developers to turn it into a residential development because it has a huge car park, the villagers were looking at it from the point of opening a local amenity and a couple wanted to turn it into a house.

"I am not sure what Mr Dew's intentions are, he was originally looking to turn it into a food and restaurant type of place."

A number of other properties from Pubfolio have also been placed on the market.
