But one company has opted for a more modern approach and has listed for sale on eBay. Starlight Cabs in Worthing is up for sale on eBay for £90,000. The business can also be found on the Gumtree listings website.
Steve Barlow has owned the business for the last three and a half years, but he has chosen to sell in order to move into a less stressful line of work.
Whoever opts to take on the company might well find themselves with a lot on their plate given that the firm is the second biggest tax company in the town and has been operating for around 30 years, during which time it has built up a strong reputation.
Mr Barlow told local paper The Argus: "I am just looking to move into a less stressful industry, I have a lot of drivers to look after....
"Probably the best thing about the job is that you get to own your own business and you get a regular working income from day one."
