Top Edinburgh hotel on the market

One of Edinburgh's top hotels has been put up for sale following a decision by its owner that it no longer fits with its 'long-term trading strategy.'

The Hudson Hotel in Hope Street has come onto the market just four years after it was fully renovated at a cost of £7 million. Owner Festival Inns has put a price tag of offers over £4.45 million onto the American-style 'boutique' hotel, which contains the Bacaro nightclub and Hudson Bar.

Last year, the hotel's income fell by £190,000, due mainly to the work on tram tracks located close to the building. However, selling agents Jones Lang LaSalle have said that the tram works are not the reason for the sale.

A director at Jones Lang LaSalle, Alan Creevy, said, “All I can tell you is that the hotel is under offer, and we have a buyer lined up.

“With regards to the tram project, it must have impacted on quite a number of businesses in Edinburgh. It's slightly different now because there seems to be quite a lot of traffic flow, but at one point it was just incredibly difficult to move through the city and that's impacted the Hudson Hotel,” he added.
