The Bull pub in Troston, one of the few amenities in the village, has been put up for sale as a pub by its current owner, the Greene King group.
Villagers had become concerned about the future of the property, which has been closed for around ten months. However, the 200-year-old inn now appears to have a future in Troston after all as a spokeswoman for Greene King confirmed that it is to be passed on to new hands.
The representative stated: “After liaising with the parish council, we can confirm that we have now put the Bull onto the market and for sale as a pub.
“We also hope the obtain planning consent to develop the land around the site, which will provide new homes and playing fields for the village.”
Villagers expressed their approval regarding the sale but noted that they are keen to receive more reassurance that the building will be required to remain in operation as a pub, rather than be redeveloped as a property or a different business.
Resident Peter Hay told EADT24: “It's a good village, but with a derelict building of an old pub in the middle of it it's very disheartening for everybody … We have no social facilities whatsoever other than the pub and the children's amenity. That's all we have got.”
His statement made it clear that the villagers valued the space as a pub and are looking forward to a new buyer bringing the property back to life.
