TV chef puts Welsh restaurant up for sale

Matt Tebbutt, one of Wales’ best-known chefs, has put his restaurant, the Foxhunter, up for sale, with an asking price of almost £500,000.

The Grade-II listed building is the former stationmaster’s house, located in Nantyderry, Monmouthshire, in one of the most picturesque regions of South Wales. It has been renovated and boasts log-burning stoves and restored Welsh flagstone floors.

Mr Tebbutt has owned and run the restaurant for 10 years but has made the emotional decision to sell as he is not presently able to give the restaurant the time it deserves, with his television and family commitments.

The Foxhunter is seen as a top destination in the “foodie triangle” of Monmouthshire. James Richards from hotel and restaurant specialist agents, Colliers International, commented: “Matt has put the Foxhunter on the map as a great place to eat in a lovely location. This is a wonderful opportunity for a new owner to take on a well-established business with an excellent reputation.”

The Foxhunter began life as the railway stationmaster’s house and was later converted into a pub. It was named after a horse written by a local of Nantyderry, Sir Harry Llewellyn, in the Helsinki Olympic Games in 1952. Foxhunter won a gold medal for Britain and is now buried in the hills nearby.
