Welsh hotel for sale

Llangoed Hall Hotel at Llyswen, near Brecon, Powys is up for sale after the group that owns it went into administration.

The hotel for sale, which was previously owned by Laura Ashley co-founder Sir Bernard Ashley, was bought by von Essen Hotels in 2010. The property is now on the market through von Essen's administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The hotel itself has 23 en-suite bedrooms and sits in nearly 15 acres of land. In addition to the Grade-II listed hotel, which dates back to 1632, a helicopter hanger, a five-bed staff lodge, offices and a warehouse are included in the sale, the BBC reported. Serious offers are being invited with these attributes in mind.

Martin Rogers, director at selling agents Savills in Exeter, commented: “This is a unique opportunity to acquire one of the most historically significant homes in Wales.

"Llangoed Hall offers tremendous business potential and has an excellent reputation as one of the UK's best country house hotels. We anticipate a strong level of interest from the UK and abroad."

The original von Essen acquisition included Sir Bernard's private art collection of 20 drawings by James Whistler. It is unclear if these items are included in the sale.
