Young's pubs for sale

Pub company Young's has announced that 14 of its pubs are now up for sale, the majority of which are based in the south.

The firm currently has a portfolio of around 90 tenanted pubs and 150 managed establishments. Of those it is selling, 13 are tenanted while there is one managed house on the market in Bristol.

Small businesses appear to be showing resilience to the mounting pressures of operating in today's financial climate.

The latest research from the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) revealed that 68 per cent of small businesses have introduced new or improved products and services over the course of the past two years.

Welsh hotel for sale

Llangoed Hall Hotel at Llyswen, near Brecon, Powys is up for sale after the group that owns it went into administration.

The hotel for sale, which was previously owned by Laura Ashley co-founder Sir Bernard Ashley, was bought by von Essen Hotels in 2010. The property is now on the market through von Essen's administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers.

A pub and hotel used in the famous 1970s horror film The Wicker Man is up for sale.

Located in Creetown, near Newton Stewart, the Ellangowan Hotel is on the market for offers of around £200,000.

Council considers selling assets

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is considering selling off some of its buildings and assets in a bid to cut its expenses.

Dozens of buildings will be sold off in order to raise funds of around £25 million for major new projects. Included in the sale will be town halls, offices, libraries, local centres and depots.

31 per cent growth in restaurant administrations

The past year has seen the number of restaurants going bust rise by almost a third (31 per cent), recent figures have confirmed.

Compiled by chartered accountants and business advisory firm Wilkins Kennedy, the data found that the past year saw the highest number of insolvencies since the first quarter of 2009 and blamed VAT and rises in minimum wages for the problems.

HF Holidays completes hotel purchase

HF Holidays has completed the purchase of the Longmynd Hotel in the Shropshire Hills, it has been confirmed.

Reports from the Shropshire Star confirmed that the sale of the hotel by the Chapman family to HF Holidays was completed last week on a five-year lease purchase agreement. It is understood that the deal was worth several million, although the last known figure – the market price in October – was £1.75 million.

Pochin plans concrete pumping division sale

Contractor and developer Pochin is concluding plans to sell its loss-making concrete pumping business, it has been reported.

The company first revealed that it was having problems with the division in its half-year results for the six months to December.
